The "Time Gravity – 2023 Chengdu Biennale" exhibition opened to the public on July 17 at the Chengdu Art Museum in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The Chengdu Biennale has established itself as a highly regarded platform for artistic exchanges on an international scale. This year's event has brought together 476 artworks created by 235 artists from 22 countries and regions. The participating artists encompass a diverse range of talents, including renowned Chinese artists such as Xu Bing, Sui Jianguo, Zhou Chunya, He Duoling, Zhang Xiaogang and Ding Yi, as well as internationally acclaimed figures like David Hockney, Timm Ulrichs, and Nam June Paik. The exhibition, which is divided into nine sections, explores a wide array of artistic disciplines, delving into the intersection of technology and art, the fusion of data and artistic expression, biotechnology and intelligent technology. This comprehensive display offers visitors a captivating journey through a variety of artistic realms. Unlike previous editions, this year's Chengdu Biennale features a significant representation of artworks by young artists, accounting for over 30 percent of the exhibition. It highlights the youthfulness and vitality of contemporary art. Xiao Feige, Deputy Director of the Chengdu Art Museum, emphasized the integration of art and life, stating that art should have no boundaries and should be an integral part of our lives. "Art should not be confined to sacred temples but should truly meet the inner needs of our daily lives," said Xiao. As a renowned historical and cultural city in China, Chengdu is home to 172 museums and hosts a diverse range of cultural and artistic exhibitions, which help to stimulate the city's vibrant artistic scene. The 2023 Chengdu Biennale will run until November this year, lasting for over four months and covering national holidays including Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.
